Keen To Head BRCC TV
Rich Keen has been selected to head up Blue Ridge Community College’s new educational cable TV channel, BRCC TV. Keen will be responsible for creating and scheduling the programming and recruiting and training volunteers for the education channel slated to begin airing soon on Morris Broadband cable channel 112.
Originally from New York, Keen spent most of his life in North Carolina. He earned a degree in Communication Media/Broadcasting from Appalachian State University and a master’s degree in Film and Video Production from UNC-Greensboro. After graduating, Keen worked in TV news in the Charlotte area and Bluefield, WV. He also did freelance work creating documentary, sports, marketing, educational, and performing arts programs.
Most recently, Keen taught college level video production and was a contractor with the US Army to document the cleanup of a chemical weapon manufacturing site and its conversion to a National Wildlife Refuge. “Ever since attending App State, I’ve been hooked on the Blue Ridge Mountains,” said Keen. “It’s nice to be home again near my family.”
After several years of discussion and planning for the launch of BRCC TV, Keen’s recent hiring brings to life the BRCC’s vision of providing area residents with quality educational and cultural programming. “BRCC TV is a blank slate and getting it up and running can be quite overwhelming at times but I’ve had so much help from the talented staff and faculty here at BRCC,” said Keen. “When we go live on July 1, I feel we will meet and exceed the community’s expectations. I’m really enjoying taking BRCC TV from concept to reality.”
In the near future, Keen and his staff will be looking for volunteers to assist with television production tasks, like program hosts, directors, camera operators, floor directors, CG operators, audio technicians, and technical directors. Applications for volunteer positions and workshop announcements will be posted on the BRCC TV website soon.
